| FIRST LEGO League

Designed for young people ages 9-14, FIRST
LEGO League (FLL) uses the LEGO MindStorms System to
provide creative technological experiences for younger children.
Participating teams are provided a challenge based on a
real-life problem and, with the help of adult mentors, they
research, design, build and program robotic creations to
carry out a series of missions on table-top playing fields.
Students develop an understanding of engineering
and programming concepts and the role of technology in our
society. They learn to use the Internet and other research
resources to study challenge topics, make presentations
about their research results, and test their robotic creations
in a setting of friendly competition.
In 2006, more than 8,840 teams representing
over 88,000 kids took part in FLL Tournaments across the nation,
in addition to events in other nations. See the Calendar
for FLL competitions in the New York City / New Jersey region.
