“The [FIRST Robotics] competition is a friendly / gentleman's sort of sport... It is only a forum to put our machines to the test, and see how well we did against what we set out to do -- not to see which team can build the best robot.”

- Ken Wittlief, Engineer

More About the 2008 New York City Regional Competition

Number of Competing Teams:
Approximately 65

Team Poster Contest:
This year attending FRC teams are invited to participate in the "Our FIRST Story" poster contest. Teams have one week to create a poster describing their FIRST story; a display of their FIRST experience, achievements, team events or school participation in FIRST. The poster will be displayed at the NYC regional venue and will be judged by their peers.

FIRST Tech Challenge:
For more information about the FTC Tournament taking place on Saturday, April 5th, please click here.

FIRST LEGO League:

Approx. 50 teams from the tri-state area will be competing in an exhibition on Sunday, April 6th.

Local Hotels:
Please click here for a listing of hotels in the area that may be able to accomodate your team. FIRST is no longer offering hotel reservation services for FRC Regional Events. We would like to provide FIRST team members some recommendations of the best way to place hotel reservations. Google and the Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB) can be great resources. We find that hotels that are members of their local CVBs tend to be more reputable properties.

Volunteers:
We welcome your volunteer participation at the FIRST Robotics New York City Regional Competition. We need at least 100 individuals each day to help make this competition a great success. There are several positions, both technical and non-technical, guided to match your individual expertise, availability and interests.

All interested volunteers must use VIMS (Volunteer Information and Matching System) to register with FIRST. For more information, please contact Tony Paxton, the NYC Regional Planning Committee Chair at [email protected] or by phone at (212) 325-2349.
