New York City FLL Championship was a Huge Success
Continued from the May 2007 Newsletter...
Who knew a topic about something only visible with the most powerful microscopes could engage so many young people? Despite the cold, FLL middle school teams from across the five boroughs arrived early on Saturday and Sunday mornings to test their robots against others and to present their research projects to panels of judges. Team spirit was exemplified through a variety of dyed hair color, colorful team uniforms, cleverly designed t-shirts, and hundreds of cheering fans.
The 2006 New York City FIRST LEGO League Tournaments were sponsored by: American Express, Con Edison, The David L. Klein Jr. Foundation, Rose Tech Ventures LLC, and Verizon. Additional supporters included Credit Suisse, H.O. Penn Machinery, The Netherlands American Community Trust, New Jersey Institute of Technology, Polytechnic University, and Vision Education & Media.
The success of this year's event would not have been possible without the efforts of more than 200 volunteers led by the New York City FIRST LEGO League Planning Committee chaired by Mark Sharfshteyn, IT Management Specialist at Credit Suisse.
When asked about the success of the tournament Mark said, "The generosity of our sponsors, more than 200 volunteers, and the enthusiasm of the teams made it all possible." Volunteer of the Year trophies went to Gary Israel and Norm Scott for their dedication to making NYC FLL such an amazing success.
